Premier League Coronavirus: What can we expect?

The Premier League board will meet tomorrow, via conference call, in order to discuss the Coronavirus crisis; here’s what to expect:

The Premier League board are likely to reiterate their desire to complete the 2019/20 season. Clubs will be shown various scenarios on when and where fixtures can be fulfilled.

The Premier League are likely to admit that the April 4th suspension will be extended. The virus will almost certainly have taken more of a hold in the UK by then making games highly unlikely.

Games behind closed doors likely as the UK has virtually banned mass gatherings having “advised” against it for the foreseeable future.

The postponing of the European Championships has opened up a window to complete the domestic season with clubs having until the end of June to fulfill their fixtures. Reports suggest that the League could have to pay out compensation of up to 750 million to companies like Sky and BT if they break their 3 billion pounds’ broadcasting contracts. There would also likely be law suits from clubs at the top of the Championship and possibly from clubs in the top flight too.

Liverpool sit 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League table and have more points having played 29 games than any club in history. It would be an absolute travesty of justice if the League was declared null and void and we expect the possibility of this happening to be still infinitesimally small.
