Naby Keita officially joined Liverpool FC in the summer of 2018 despite being bought and paid for the previous summer and then spending a season on loan with RB Leipzig. A move Liverpool made in order to secure the signing of one of the most highly rated midfield players in the Bundesliga.
Liverpool would pay around £50 million for the Guinean and would cause huge excitement amongst the support as he was handed, quite literally, the number 8 jersey by its former occupier, Steven Gerrard.
Keita would be named Man of the Match on his Premier League debut against West Ham – he showed some flashes of brilliance throughout his first year at Liverpool but his season would be disrupted by numerous injuries and him missing the chance to tie down a regular place in the Liverpool midfield. Liverpool fans and staff alike still hold high hopes for the talented midfielder going into the 2018/2019 campaign.
