Virgil Van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018 for approximately 70 million pounds becoming the most expensive centre back of all time. A huge investment for a defender but he would soon start justifying the fee with a winner on his debut against bitter rivals Everton at Anfield.
In no time at all VVD turned Liverpool’s infamously shaky defence into one of the best around. After missing out on winning the Champions League in 2017/2018 the big centre half would be imperious the following season helping guide Liverpool FC to their 6th European Cup/Champions League trophy.
Van Dijk would also go on to pick up some amazing personal awards, particularly for a defender, winning the 2018/2019 PFA Player of the Year, the Premier League Player of the Season, UEFA Men’s Player of the Year and Man of the Match in the Champions League final – he is also listed for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award.
VVD has transformed Liverpool’s defence and Liverpool’s team and is widely regarded as one of, if not the, best defender and even player in the world.
