Switzerland international star Xherdan Shaqiri joined Liverpool in the summer of 2018 from relegated Stoke City. He would be brought in to add some depth to Liverpool’s attacking options from midfield and wide areas. The talented and experienced Swiss would be signed on a free transfer and would start to make an impact quite quickly for Liverpool, mainly from the bench.
Shaqiri would become a hit with the Kop faithful after coming off the bench to score 2 at that end of the pitch against bitter rivals Manchester United, taking the score to 3-1 late on and putting the Mancs to the sword!
After a very encouraging first year at Anfield Liverpool fans had high hopes for “The Shaq” coming into the 2019/2020 season but he has not made many appearances with competition for places in Klopp’s midfield being fierce – he does, however, offer something different off the bench and is the type of player who can change a game in which the Reds are struggling.
