We take a look ahead to Sunday’s game against Manchester United at Anfield;
So it’s that time again. Liverpool vs Manchester United Time. We may be miles ahead of United at the moment, 27 points, but this one is still huge for both clubs and their fans. United are the only team to take points off Liverpool this season and they managed to frustrate in a huge game at Old Trafford last season too, but this is at Anfield and we really owe them one! The players will know that too and you can expect them to be right up for this one.
The game kicks off at 4:30 PM Sunday giving the Liverpool fans plenty of time to be ready for racing. Expect a baying Anfield crowd out for a little revenge and a team that comes flying out of the blocks to fight for a massive 3 points to put Liverpool FC another massive step towards the Premier League title after Man City again failed to win on Saturday.
Man Utd did managed to frustrate at Old Trafford last season and this, but Liverpool won the corresponding Anfield fixture last year with Xherdan Shaqiri coming off the bench to score 2 at the Kop end to give Liverpool a massive 3-1 win.
Team News:
Liverpool’s Joel Matip and Fabinho have been in full training over the past few days and the return of two mainstays in the Liverpool starting 11, prior to their injuries, is a huge boost to Jurgen Klopp most of the way through January. Milner, Lovren and Kieta ares still out for the Reds. In terms of Man Utd, It’s fair to say that they are somewhat depleted for this fixture, with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay out and Luke Shaw to be assessed ahead of the game. Marcos Rashford was taken off injured in United’s last game and the current rumours are that the United traveling squad has been released without Rashford being named, however take this with a pinch of Salt as United often travel on the same day the quick hop down the East Lancs road to Liverpool and it would not be a major surprise to see Rashford involved in the match day squad, quite possibly starting.
This is a major opportunity for Liverpool to get one over on their main rivals and to take another huge step towards the holy grail of a first league title in 30 years. Liverpool are currently 13 points ahead of City at the top of the table with 2 games in hand, win today and a further 10 wins from the subsequent 16 games would see Liverpool handed the Title. They’ll need much less than that if Man City and Leicester drop further points, which they inevitably will.
