Liverpool legend and general all-round boss Jamie Carragher turns 42 today and here at LFCHQ.net we’d like to celebrate his birthday by having a look at his career and checking out some of his greatest video highlights.
Carragher was actually a boyhood Everton fan but joined the Liverpool academy at a young age and would go on to become the club’s second most prolific player in terms of numbers of appearances with 737 apps for the club. He also holds the record for most European appearances for the Reds.

Jamie actually started out as a striker in his youth and played for England youth teams as a striker, but he would start his Liverpool senior career as a right back under Gerard Houllier – he would quickly establish himself as a no nonsense defender and the Kop would take to him pretty quickly. Carragher was no great shakes in this role from an attacking point of view but he was super solid in defence, wingers had an absolute nightmare against Carragher and when one would try to take him on you were always confident that they would never pass him.
The arrival of Rafa Benitez in 2004 would see Carragher move into the centre back role where he would find real form and become a mainstay in the Liverpool team. He would go on to win 2 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 Super Cups, 1 UEFA Cup and of course 1 Champions League. Carragher would become a huge fan favourite and be immortalized in the song βWe all Dream of a Team of Carraghersβ.. Indeed! Caragher, of course, would move on to punditry where he is doing an excellent job winding up Gary Neville!
