Liverpool Beat Blades to go 13 Clear
Liverpool beat Sheffield United to extend their Premier League unbeaten run to a full year! Their last coming at the Etihad to Manchester City on New Year’s Day last year. Liverpool opened the scoring after Virgil Van Dijk sent another excellent long ball forward, this time putting Robertson in down the left, a slip by the Sheffield United right back made it easy for Robertson to play the ball low across the box in search of an oncoming Mo Salah who duly put the chance away.
Having gone 1 up in the third minute Liverpool would go on to totally dominate the game without being exceptionally dangerous. It was a controlled performance with Sheffield United barely getting a sniff all game, and when Robertson played Sadio Mane down the left touchline they would all but wrap the game up in the 63rd minute. Mane ran at the Sheffield United defence with a lot more purpose this time before stepping inside and squaring it to Salah who managed to control it on the edge of the box before sliding it through the middle for mane who continued his run. Mane’s pace got him onto ball – his first effort was saved brilliantly by Dean Henderson but he could only parry it to Mane again who slotted home into an empty net at the Kop end.
Liverpool are now 37 Premier League games undefeated, having amassed an amazing 101 points in that time. More importantly, the Reds restore their lead over Leicester and City by 13 and 14 points respectively, and with a game in hand too. They have taken 58 points from their first 20 games this season winning 19 of them and only drawing one.
The Redmen march on toward the title and if they can match Arsenal’s Premier League unbeaten record of 49 games, then they’ll take on Man City at the Etihad in a bid to break the record with a 50th Premier League game unbeaten.
Absolutely amazing numbers for Klopp’s team but the only number they’ll be worried about is, perhaps, 13 – that’s the number of wins that would guarantee the title, and that’s assuming Leicester don’t win another point, and a similar story for Man City a further point back. No chance. Klopp’s Reds march on.
